The Beauty of Owning Something Original

There’s something special about owning a piece of art that exists only once. I believe original art is worth making room for, and choosing something you love matters more than following trends…

Why I believe original art is worth making room for.

There is something special about owning a piece of art that exists only once in the world.

Not because it is expensive, exclusive or created to follow a particular trend, but because someone has taken the time to make something entirely with their own two hands.

Every brushstroke, colour choice, unexpected mark and layer contributes to a piece that could never be recreated in exactly the same way.

That is what draws me to original art, and it's a big part of why I've chosen to focus my practice on creating one-of-a-kind paintings.

Beyond the latest trend

We live in a world where almost everything is available at the click of a button. Our homes are influenced by trends, social media and the latest interiors inspiration. There is nothing wrong with finding inspiration in those places, but I sometimes wonder whether we have lost a little of the joy of choosing things simply because we love them.

For me, art is an opportunity to do just that.

An original painting doesn't need to match the latest colour trend or fit neatly into a particular decorating style. It can be the unexpected piece that brings a room together, the splash of colour that makes you smile, or the artwork you find yourself looking at differently every time you pass it.

And unlike mass-produced prints, an original painting carries the individual decisions, textures and marks of the person who created it. Even when two artworks explore similar colours or ideas, no two originals are ever quite the same.

I think there is something precious about that.

When you buy an original artwork, you're choosing something with its own character and history. You're bringing home a piece that was made by hand, rather than one produced in thousands of identical copies. It might not be the most obvious choice, but it can become the most personal one.

Buy what you love, not just what is trending

Ultimately, I think the best reason to buy art is a simple one: you love it.

Not because it matches a particular season's palette. Not because an algorithm tells you it's on trend. And not because someone else says it's the right choice.

Choose the painting that makes you pause. The one that brings a little energy into your space or makes you feel calmer when you look at it. The one that feels like you.

Your home doesn't need to look like anyone else's. It can be a collection of things that mean something to you, gathered over time and chosen for their own reasons.

And original art can be a beautiful part of that.

For me, creating art is about exploring colour, finding joy in the unexpected and making something that didn't exist before. Knowing that one of my paintings might find a place in someone's home, becoming part of their everyday life, is a wonderful part of that journey.

I'd love for my work to help people discover the pleasure of owning something original — whether it's their very first painting or another piece in a collection they've been building for years.

Because art doesn't have to follow a trend to belong in your home.

Sometimes, the most meaningful thing you can bring into a space is something that exists only once.

And that's a beautiful thing.
